Elderberry: Nature’s Immune Boosting Anti Inflammatory

Updated: Nov 6, 2019

How this Purple Miracle Fruit is Going to Get you Through this School Year

My kids just went back to daycare last week, and I was reminded of the benefits of elderberry syrup. It took 48 hours for all 3 of us to come down with coughs and sniffles, and the rest of the center is exactly the same. As soon as my 4 year old starts coughing, he eagerly asks for his “medicine.” Another one of the benefits of elderberry syrup? It tastes pretty great!

Did you know that during the school year, kids get an average of 8 to 12 colds? If I make my kid wash his hands 17 times a day, it still won’t make the kid at the desk next to him cover his mouth when he sneezes. Germs are pretty much unavoidable!

So what is elderberry anyway? It’s the dark purple berry of the European elder tree (not elderflower!). The berries are used for many medicinal purposes...

The most popular or commonly known benefits of elderberry syrup are the resembling similarities the plant’s effects have on influenza compared to the popular drug Tamiflu. Tamiflu causes vomiting, nausea and even hallucinations… and experts agree that it is worth the side effects.

What if you could find relief without the potential danger? Because you can.

Chinese star anise, a key ingredient in Tamiflu, is a core component of this recipe but without the side effects!

When taken 48 hours after symptoms appear, Elderberry syrup seems to reduce the duration of illness and offer complete relief in 2-4 days!

Not flu season? No worries! Elderberry is not just for the flu (though its effects on flu symptoms has been studied more in depth). This plant also boosts the immune system overall- another one of the benefits of elderberry syrup!

The benefits of elderberry syrup are wide-ranging.

Elderberry syrup is consumed by mouth to boost the immune system for HIV/AIDS and cancer patients, for sinus pain, sciatica (pain the back and legs), chronic fatigue syndrome, nerve pain and other chronic pain disorders. It can also be used to aid in soothing constipation, headaches, toothaches and may even aid in weight loss!

Because of the immune benefits of elderberry syrup, it can simply be taken daily by mouth to prevent and deter illness.

So… what are we waiting for?
